5 Recipe Apps to Help You Cook Meals with Ease
Cooking - This word terrified me when I first left home. Now that I have been on my own for a while (and after finding these apps), cooking isn’t quite the challenge I thought it would be. Who knew it would be so easy to follow a recipe!?
Now that I am enjoying cooking, I have started to swap recipes with my mom who, might I add, has dozens of cookbooks with the margins scribbled in and pages folded in. Looking through her cookbooks is challenging because there is no structure to finding her favorite recipes other than flipping through to each and every dog-eared page. Not to mention almost all of her five-star recipes are handwritten.
Thinking, “there must be an app for this,” I decided to find a way to help my mom get organized and to help me stay organized as I accumulate more and more home recipes. ___________________________________________________________________________
Now, more than ever, people are watching what they are eating. I have never heard of more vegan- or vegetarian-lifestyle transitioners. Although I am neither vegan nor vegetarian, I have many friends who are. They are always so excited when they find a new good recipe that includes affordable, delicious ingredients that is simple to prepare.
In addition to being simple recipe organizers, a few of the apps I have highlighted below are great for providing yummy recipes for all types of diets (including vegan, vegetarian, paleo, Mediterranean, etc.). Some of these even have shopping lists built in to help you save time when trying to prepare your meals for the week.
• All-in-one recipe organizer, shopping list, and meal planner • Organize recipes in exactly the way you want
• Quick and easy to enter personal recipes or save them from the web
• Add ingredients to your shopping list straight from a recipe
I love the built-in meal planner! Meals can be automatically added to your shopping list to plan for your whole week! With this app, you not only have the ability to organize your recipes any way you want, but you can also rate all your recipes, flag favorites, and add personal notes! My mom and I are always swapping recipes and trying to cook new foods. This app makes sharing so easy by letting me quickly e-mail the recipes directly to her without having to write them out or type them up.
• New recipes daily
• Short step-by-step cooking videos
• Recipes for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert, and snacks
• Ingredient shopping lists
• Detailed cooking and baking instructions
• Save meals to your scrapbook
I get tired of trying to figure out what to cook every night. I always end up making one of the same few, easy meals: spaghetti, chili, or a simple chicken breast. While I like my go-tos, it’s nice every once in awhile to try something new. With Tasty Recipes, you can try something new every night! Search for your favorite meals and quickly learn how to prepare, make, and serve your newest dish! 5 stars? Save it to your in-app scrapbook so you won’t have to search for it again!
• Add your own recipes or import them from your favorite websites
• Search engine that easily finds and imports recipes
Cookbook Recipes gives an easy search option to find just about any recipe you might want! One unique feature: when you can’t decide what to cook, shake your device and let the app choose for you! This is such a life-saver for me. I am so indecisive when it comes to knowing what I want to eat. This app saves me time from having to make just one more decision after a long day.
• Generates a complete meal plan just for you taking into account your diet goals, favorite foods, budget, and schedule
• Choose from paleo, Atkins/keto, vegetarian, vegan, and Mediterranean diet
• Set the available cooking time for each meal to match your schedule
• Personalize any of the app’s recipes or add your own!
Eat This Much Meal Planner is an awesome automatic meal planner! You just let it know what your goals are and it does all the hard work for you! You can also tell this app if you want to lose weight, maintain your weight, or gain muscle and it will take into account what your body needs to achieve your goal. That’s one of my favorite aspects.
Unlike a lot of apps that just want to help you eat a healthy diet, this one takes your goals into consideration too. This app seems very inclusive to any type of diet, which makes it a personal favorite!
• Variety of easy, healthy recipes
• Dietitian-approved easy recipes available for dietary restrictions including gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, meat-eater, low calorie, dairy-free, and low-carb
• Filter recipes based on the amount of time, post-workout, low calorie, nut-free, smoothies, etc.
Runtasty is an awesome app for many of the same reasons as the Eat This Much Meal Planner. This too is great for being able to tailor to specific diet types. And, of course, you are able to easily search and find whatever recipe you want based on whatever criteria you want!
I especially love this app’s ability to limit a search to how much time it takes to make a particular meal. I always get disappointed when I find a great recipe and then realize that it is going to take two hours to prepare and cook. By the time I get home from work, I don’t want to be cooking for hours. Being able to limit my search from the beginning has become something I have really relied on and has made my evenings much, much easier. ___________________________________________________________________________
Cooking may seem like an odd thing to pair with organizing, but consider that any one of these apps may save you even five minutes every day. At the end of the week, that is an extra 35 minutes you get to spend with your family sitting around the dinner table rather than focusing on getting food on the table.
If you’ve tried any of these apps in the past, comment below about your experience! Do you know of any other great recipe-saving apps? Post it here for others. The best part about apps is how easy they are to use and share. Share the deliciousness by sharing your favorite apps!
